Spirit of Hobart. From under the Tasman Bridge, along the edge of the Derwent River.

In celebration of spring in Hobart, and the end to another exciting and intense university semester, the two of us took to the Derwent River on a sunny though hardly balmy day in October.

The pretty, small, red and white painted Spirit of Hobart ferry, so often spotted by its young fan from our home back up on the hill, started its engines and took us from its mooring on Murray Street Pier along the river under the Tasman Bridge, and back towards Battery Point and it’s home on the pier a good hour later.

It was the young fans first time under the bridge, which he’s crossed many times, and it was a true treat to see it up close, as well as view Hobart and it’s beautiful surrounds from the water perspective. We took a packed lunch, and ate as we took in all the sights and listened to our devoted captain’s tales of our city.

Highly recommend this event to families looking for something different, close, affordable, and most enjoyable for children, which helps capture the spirit of this incredible, and historic little city in such an enjoyable manner.
