Streetscapes: Watch your step – you might fall in love. Golden walk of winter around the streets of South Hobart. nipaluna/lutruwita.

There is this sweet spot sometime between late April early May to early June when the tree leaves have all turned from their lush, green colours of Spring and Summer to bright hues of yellows, oranges, reds, and browns.

From their lives on the trees, the strongest of the leaf stems still holding on through wind and rain, they take your breath away when the sun hits them just so, at it rises in the morning and falls in the early afternoon.

The beauty of the leaf colour change of course also whispers the truth about their eminent demise as the island heads into its winter season, so I try and take it all in on my walks with my dog, happily extending my admiration to the fallen leaves on the ground. Their beauty, albeit short-lived, are captivating in their new context, as they craft random patterns, entirely designed by nature’s wind and rain.
